The Old Hometown...

If you hadn't been back to Searcy since High School a lot of the town would be unrecognizeable... no Pit Drive-In, no Drive In Movies, no Burger Barn... and too much new stuff to list - a second High School, two (!) McDonalds, and Harding has taken over most of the surrounding neighborhoods.

BUT, it's nice to know that some things stay the same... the courthouse for example... and the Rialto is still standing (and operating!).

These are just a few photos that I have taken in recent visits... send me more... there's BOUND to be other landmarks still standing!...

A few shots from downtown and the parks...

Your tax dollars at work... (or not!). No, this is not Oh Brother, Where Art Thou, just lawnwork on the courthouse grounds being done by those giving just a little more than their time to the city...

Barber Shop2.jpg (16119 bytes)

Ye, this can STILL be your favorite place to get a haircut!... If I'm not mistaken, this was the FIRST place I ever had my hair cut when I was just a tot...

Old Jail.jpg (11359 bytes)

Anyone else besides me spend any time is this facility (I know who you are!)??? (I think this is just offices now... I don't see any bars on the windows!)

JBs House.jpg (16780 bytes)

This is the house I grew up in... still standing at 707 East  Race Avenue.

In case anyone runs across this page ACTUALLY looking for information regarding Searcy, here are some links...
